Joyce Joumaa is a video artist born and raised in Lebanon who explores themes of reality shaped by conflict and tensions. Now based in Canada, she participated for the first time in the Venice Art Biennale with the work Memory Contours in which she investigates the intelligence tests that immigrants were subjected to in the United States in 1914 and which could result in detention and deportation. A work that accentuates the strong tension between the expressive form of drawing and its use as a discriminatory measure by the authorities.
